IDEX 2013 - Rheinmetall Showcasing a Wide Array of Products

Rheinmetall is showcasing a wide assortment of exciting products at IDEX 2013.

For example, the Düsseldorf, Germany-based defence contractor is displaying its KODIAK armoured combat engineering vehicle, a heavy-duty tracked system designed for military and disaster relief operations alike. Also on view in Abu Dhabi are several wheeled systems from Rheinmetall MAN Military Vehicles (RMMV), including tried-and-tested logistics vehicles such as the TGS 8x8 Cargo, TGM 4x4 Cargo, and the HX81 recovery vehicle (more info here). In addition to these, visitors are able to inspect tactical vehicles like the 4x4 Armoured Multi Purpose Vehicle (AMPV), at IDEX configured for a reconnaissance role and equipped with Vingtaqs SLR; or the mobile command post variant of the 8x8 GTK BOXER.

Interaction between the C4I system of the BOXER tactical operations centre and the GLADIUS Future Soldier System are demonstrated for the first time in the Middel East at IDEX.

Furthermore, the aArmed Forces of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) are conducting a live demonstration of their NBC defence capabilities in which Rheinmetall’s globally acclaimed FUCHS/FOX NBC armoured reconnaissance vehicle plays a key role.

In the air defence domain, the Group’s SKYSHIELD sensor unit SKYSHIELD Revolver Gun are on display. These components can be used for defending military assets and civilian critical infrastructure, as well as in military operations other than war (MOOTW) and for naval applications.

Moreover, abundant space is allocated to another major area of Rheinmetall expertise: ammunition. Here the products on display range from MITHRAS illumination and signalling rockets and 40mm ammunition to medium-calibre cartridges and the pioneering programmable 120mm DM11 round.

A technology demonstrator informs about Rheinmetall’s comprehensive expertise in the field of force protection. This ranges from high-tech ballistic protection panels to soft-kill systems like the Rapid Obscurant System (ROSY) and active hard-kill solutions such as the Group’s cutting-edge Active Defence System (ADS). More information here.

Examples of Rheinmetall’s naval competence include the HEROLD and HEROLD Navy reconnaissance and surveillance systems. In the Electro-Optics division, the focus is on reconnaissance systems like the Vingtaqs SLR and Vingtaqs II as well as the Forward Observer Instrument FOI 2000, while the DESUG ballistic and combat simulator offers a fascinating insight into the world of Rheinmetall simulation technology.
