AFCEA 2015: Command support with components from ATM

At this year's AFCEA exhibition, ATM ComputerSysteme GmbH (ATM - booth G2) is demonstrating how it is helping to improve command capability under the slogan "Detect – Process – Communicate" with new displays, a new vehicle computer and the new communication server.

CENTURION i7 for QBA

Together with Krauss-Maffei Wegmann GmbH & Co. KG (KMW), ATM will also be presenting the "cross-functional operation & display" (QBA).

Detect – ATM presents the newly developed VistaMaster-12L and MDU17 HD displays, which ensure that the user can keep track of information that is essential for survival in complex situations, at all times and under all conditions.

VISTAMASTER 12L

The new VistaMaster-12L display offers improved readability in the dark, in mixed light situations and in strong sunlight. The VistaMaster displays are designed to minimise reflections and to ensure high-contrast readability in sunlight through their design and automatic brightness adjustment function. The multi-level dimming range allows you to make individual adjustments in order to reduce the brightness for use at night, as well as enabling operation with night-vision goggles. The VistaMaster display can be set to camouflage mode, in which it continues to function without emitting any light.

The MDU17 HD display extends the image area to the 16:9 format in order to improve the display of high-resolution information. The MDU17 HD can be connected to a maximum of three video sources for this purpose. The larger screen size makes it easier for the user to keep an eye on all of the information. In terms of its dimensions and mountings, the MDU17 HD is installation-compatible with the MDU15, which is already in use in the Bundeswehr.

Process – ATM presents the new CENTURION i7 computer, which allows users to make use of different sensor and application information quickly and effectively.

CENTURION i7

The CENTURION i7 is a ruggedized vehicle computer which is specially tailored to both current and future challenges. The technology of the CENTURION i7 is based on a 64-bit architecture that is suitable for process- and memory-intensive applications and a variable memory configuration.  Customer-specific adjustments can be made within the modular design. The capacities of the RAM and mass storage can be selected, as can the available interfaces including CAN-BUS, GB-LAN, serial RS, audio, USB 2.0/3.0 and DVI.

Additional functionalities, from a standard assembly to customer-specific developments, can be installed via the integrated extension interface. With respect to form, fit and function, the CENTURION i7 is installation- and backward-compatible with the CENTURION computers that are already in use. If additional functions, upgrades and other hardware options are added, the basis of the computer remains unaffected by the changes.

Communicate – ATM presents the new communication server (KommServer), which ensures that data always reaches the right recipient.

KOMMSERVERBw

In its "central intelligence" role, the KommServer links the heterogeneous command resources – even those that are not IP-capable – and the various applications of the Bundeswehr and makes them available via a self-organising, ad-hoc communication network. As the backbone of tactical communication, the KommServer is what makes network-centric warfare possible.

As the synthesis of the exhibition slogan, ATM will be demonstrating the updated version of the "cross-functional operation and display" (QBA) as a cross-system operating concept for the vehicles of the Bundeswehr.

As a system solution, QBA takes into account the heightened threat of danger in military operations and the resulting technological requirements. QBA uses a cross-functional software interface to create an optimised overview of the situation thanks to the intelligent networking of all subsystems and sensors, thus offering improved command capability by means of intuitive operation and standardised hardware. The new CENTURION i7 computer and VistaMaster display are key hardware components of QBA.
