DiSTI to Upgrade Virtual Environment for Royal Australian Air Force F/A-18E Trainers

The DiSTI Corporation, a leading provider of graphical user interface software and customised 3D virtual maintenance training solutions, earlier this month announced a contract award from The Boeing Company to upgrade the Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF) F/A-18E Super HORNET Integrated Visual Environment Maintenance Trainers (IVEMT). The upgrade includes the addition of two new aircraft variants, the F/A-18F and EA-18G, upgrades to a newer version of the aircraft Operational Flight Program (OFP), and incorporation of several aircraft configuration changes.

The RAAF currently operates two F/A-18E IVEMTs originally delivered in 2010 and 2011. These maintenance trainers support training of over 650 operational level maintenance tasks in a robust, interactive 3D virtual environment. The high fidelity models of the aircraft and support equipment cover avionics, navigation, communication, radar, fuel, hydraulics, ECS, power plant, electrical, armament, landing gear, flight controls, arresting hook, and brakes.

The virtual environment application, built with DiSTI’s VE Studio, integrates with Boeing’s aircraft simulation software, operational flight programme, and Instructor Operation Station to produce the total training solution. Scheduled for completion in November 2016, the trainer upgrades will also include performance improvements and operational changes. The new virtual environment technology upgrades will use DiSTI’s Lumen runtime engine, which will dramatically enhance the visual appearance of the system.

We are pleased to provide continued support to Boeing, the US Navy, and the RAAF, for the Super HORNET,” said Joseph Swinski CEO of The DiSTI Corporation. “These upgrades will ensure that the training devices stay current with the operational fleet while enhancing the overall training experience by utilising the latest technology from DiSTI.”

DiSTI has a proven legacy in developing interactive 3D maintenance training applications. Over the past decade major OEMs and Tier 1 suppliers have used DiSTI’s software to produce world-class maintenance trainers at the lowest cost with great performance and fidelity. Industry giants such as Boeing, Lockheed Martin, and Textron deliver virtual maintenance trainers supported by VE Studio.

In November 2014, DiSTI announced the commercial availability of VE Studio. The offering provides more than just a rendering or game engine. VE Studio leverages a proven end-to-end process that manages all aspects of the virtual environment development, including requirements analysis and tracking, interface definition, design and development, automated virtual content generation, and auto regression testing.
