MILIPOL 2015: Black Dyneema for Blücher’s SARATOGA Protective Undergarments

Visitors of MILIPOL 2015 are able to see one application of Black Dyneema® as used for Blücher’s new knitted material and clothing system to protect against the effects of IED (Improvised Explosive Devices). This represents a new range of protective undergarments with anti-ballistic properties within the brand of SARATOGA®. Samples are on view on DSM Dyneema’s own stand (5P046), where Blücher’s experts are on hand to explain the advantages of the Black Dyneema® concept in its application in the fragment protective clothing system.

Dyneema®-branded ultra high molecular weight polyethylene fibre is now available in black. DSM Dyneema, the developer and producer of Black Dyneema®, says the new product will open up important new opportunities for the Dyneema® fibre family. Black Dyneema® is the latest result of DSM Dyneema bringing together its science, technology and engineering expertise in response to market needs that continue to change and develop. Black Dyneema® is similar to natural white Dyneema® fibre, except that it is permanently coloured throughout its cross-section. The colouring process has no effect on any of the key mechanical properties of the fibre, nor on its smooth surface. Very high breaking strength and stiffness, low density, low elongation, excellent durability, chemical, moisture and UV resistance are all retained, as is the fiber’s quality consistency.
