During the DIMDEX 2016 Pre-Show Press Conference on Monday, 28 March, Brigadier Dr. (Eng) Thani A. Rahman Al-Kuwari, Chairman of DIMDEX, thanked all the visitors participating in the warship arrival that took place at Doha Commercial Port earlier in the morning. This year, the event was "even successfull" in receiving 'Green Light' from seven international fleets, sending eight warships to Doha. Brigadier Dr. Al-Kuwari noted that there have been mainly "diplomatic channels" which were used to attract the Navies of Bahrain, France, Italy, Morocco, Pakistan, the United Kingdom, and the United States to attend this important naval 'come together' in a region where military sales are expected to further grow in the upcoming years. Among the key players with "increasing demands" is the State of Qatar, whose naval fleet is about to further expand its capabilities.
Brigadier Dr. Al-Kuwari, during his speech to the international audience, also highlighted the Middle East Naval Commanders Conference (MENC), under the auspices of Qatar's Minister of State for Defence Affairs, His Excellence Dr. Khalid Bin Mohamed Al-Attiyah, which will be undertaken on Wednesday, 30 March, the second day of the DIMDEX event, for which participants from both military and academia have been invited.
"I think, this year will be the best exhibition (...); it is behind of our expectations", Brigadier Dr. Al-Kuwari said. "More people are (...) willing to exhibit their products", he added.
