FIDAE 2016: SENER Brings Experience in Integration

At this year’s FIDAE International Air & Space Fair, the SENER engineering and technology group is exhibiting its projects for the integration of systems such as the PREDATOR B RPA by GA-ASI, recently acquired by the Spanish Armed Forces, modernisation of helicopters, as well as missile actuation and control systems.

At FIDAE 2016, SENER is exhibiting its capabilities in the life extension of military helicopters, displaying a 1:1 scale model of the modernised cockpit of the Spanish Navy’s AB212 helicopter.

SENER is showcasing its capacity as an engineering and construction company, with a presence in Chile through its Santiago de Chile office, as well as in the field of aeronautics, through ITP, in which SENER owns a 53.125 percent. ITP is mainly be promoting its MRO (Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul) services (military and regional aircraft and helicopter engine maintenance) that it offers through ITP In Service Support. SENER is also exhibiting its capabilities in the life extension of military helicopters, displaying a 1:1 scale model of the modernised cockpit of the Spanish Navy’s AB212 helicopter. For this, SENER, in a temporary joint venture with INAER, was responsible for life extension of these helicopters by incorporating advances in equipment and avionics. Specifically, SENER was responsible for leading the design, engineering and integration work. As well as replacing the entire electrical system and analogue cockpit with a fully digitalised one, which is what is on display at FIDAE, it has also incorporated state-of-the-art mission systems such as EFIS, EO/IR radar, Automatic Identification System (AIS), GPS navigation system, TAWS, Tactical Mission Controller (TMC), cargo crane, modifications to the auxiliary fuel tanks, a missile approach warning system (MAWS), a ballistic protection system in the flight and passenger cabin, armored and anti-crash seats for the crew, and defense weapon systems. SENER also provides plug-in technologies that allow helicopters to be quickly reconfigured for new missions.

The SENER engineering and technology group, in a joint venture with INAER, the main helicopters operator in Spain, has delivered the first Agusta Bell 212 (AB212) helicopter to the Directorate-General of Armament and Material (DGAM) of the Spanish Ministry of Defence (MoD) , after completing the first phase of its modernisation that will extend the operational life of seven AB212 helicopters by at least another 15 years.

SENER has had experience as a supplier of control and actuation systems for last generation missile programmes, such as Saab's RBS 70 NG, MBDA's METEOR, and Diehl Defence's IRIS-T, in which it is the design leader and sole supplier of key components. In the space sector, SENER is showcasing its activity as the main contractor for the complete optical instrument of the SEOSAT/Ingenio Earth observation satellite, a high-resolution camera for taking images in the visible and near infrared spectra.

The main new project that SENER is presenting at FIDAE is its selection as technological teammate of General Atomics-Aeronautical Systems Inc. (GA-ASI) for the integration of the PREDATOR B MALE RPA in Spain, recently acquired by the Spanish MoD.
