Eurosatory 2016: CONTROP SPEED- ER Can Look through Dust or Rain Thanks to SWIR

CONTROP Precision Technologies approached Eurosatory 2016 with its newly designed SPEED- ER observation system. Talking with Lori Erlich, the company's Director Marketing & Communications, MT learned that the platform was built around Short-Wave Infrared (SWIR) technology that ensures sharp, clear, and stabilised imagery obtained over "ultra-long-range" distances. Very generally, a SWIR sensor is able to "look through" dust or rain, making it the "ideal technique" for delivering images even in difficult environmental conditions. The observation platform launched in Villepinte can be employed for both coastal monitoring and harbour/port protection, and it is "ideal for Vessel Traffic Services (VTS) and air defence. According to Lori Erlich, fewer systems are required to protect a very large area, which is "thanks to its (long-range) SWIR technology." STN
