Eurosatory 2016: DST Defence Service Tracks Showcases New Lightweight iDeal Band Track System

DST Defence Service Tracks, a company of Krauss-Maffei Wegmann (KMW) Group, is a market leader in the maintenance and servicing of military vehicle fleets worldwide, with a highly trained and motivated workforce that adheres to high standards across the entire supply chain (from production of raw materials to the finished product, and beyond).

DST develops and produces more than 100 different tracks for all types of vehicles, being the track OEM for LEOPARD 1 and 2 MBTs; MARDER, PUMA, PIZARRO, and ASCOD IFVs; the M113 family; M109 and PzH 2000 artillery systems; and others.

The iDST (iDeal System Track) and iDLT (iDeal Lightweight Track) reflect DST's design capabilities and state-of-the-art technologies. The DST design and the double-pin track technology are a warrant for less torsion force, long service life, high-quality and reliability.

The iDLT is a lightweight design, which contributes to DST’s customer demands for weight reduction to allow, e.g. the installation of additional armour protection systems and to increase crew safety.

To contribute to the latest operational requirements, DST developed the iDBT (iDeal Band Track) system. Design objectives were weight and fuel reduction, noise and vibration reduction, and improvement of crew comfort. Main feature of the iDBT is the patented segmentation (with connectors), which in comparison to an endless band track allows easy handling and replacement of track segments by a crew of two in any location.

At DSA 2016, earlier this year, the iDBT 30 track system was exhibited on FNSS’ KAPLAN new generation armoured fighting vehicle.

At Eurosatory 2016, a new 38t vehicle is introduced on DST’s band track featuring the new iDBT 35. In addition, at the show, not only KMW is displaying all its tracked vehicles on DST track, but also FFG will feature its WISENT 2 in engineer configuration with DST’s 570 Z track.

According to company executives, with the backing of KMW’s powerhouse of vehicles, “we have become a one-stop shop MRO facility, being able to provide a wide range of maintenance and support services, but also holistic protection concepts, a wide range of maintenance and support services, and expertise in all main components on the running gears (such as tracks, road wheels, idler wheels and sprockets).”

In this conglomerate, DST proves its position being a world leading track OEM and a One-Stop-Shop MRO provider.
