US Navy Suffers Fourth LCS Casualty

The US Navy’s Littoral Combat Ship (LCS) USS CORONADO experienced an engineering casualty in the Western Pacific on 30 August and returned to Pearl Harbor for investigation and repair. The incident marks the fourth time an LCS has suffered such damage in less than a year. Details of the incidents have yet to be made public by the Navy.

US Navy Suffers Fourth LCS Casualty

USS MILWAUKEE had a breakdown in December 2015, USS FORT WORTH in January this year and  USS FREEDOM sustained what is described as significant damage to a diesel engine in July. All three are FREEDOM-class LCS, manufactured by Lockheed Martin, whereas CORONADO is an INDEPENDENCE-class vessel, built by Austal USA and is the first of the class to suffer such an incident.
