DSA 2014: Rohde & Schwarz Demonstrates Latest Generation of Software Defined Tactical Radios (SDTR)

Rohde & Schwarz (R&S) demonstrates its portfolio of integrated communications and intelligence solutions for all branches of the Armed Forces on booth 1253 in hall 1. The highlight is the R&S Software Defined Tactical Radio (SDTR) that provides high data rate, jam-resistant and flexible radio communications to maintain information superiority in network centric operations.

R&S®SDTR Vehicular Tactical Radio
The R&S SDTR is the first member in a new generation of software defined radios (SDR). It has been optimised for use in vehicles and semi-mobile applications. It meets the military’s special requirements for shock resistance, size, weight and ventilation without the need for extra mechanical shock absorbers. The external control unit provides user-friendly configuration and enables users to control the radio even over long distances. The control unit can control several vehicular tactical radios of the R&S SDTR and R&S M3TR families simultaneously. While developing the R&S SDTR, a primary objective for R&S was to make the radio easy to configure and operate to best help users when carrying out their missions.

The R&S SDTR, together with the high data rate R&S HDR waveform family, is fully IP capable and can be easily and seamlessly integrated into existing IP networks. The R&S SDTR is an open platform based on the software communications architecture (SCA) standard. Both standardised and proprietary waveforms can be ported to the radio, which enables interoperability with allied forces as required during missions. The security concept of the R&S SDTR provides users with secure, reliable communications they can trust. Plain and encrypted data is strictly separated, and very fast frequency hopping methods ensure maximum immunity to jamming. The combination of high-security encryption methods and fast frequency hopping rates provides optimum protection against jamming, reconnaissance and eavesdropping.

In Kuala Lumpur, R&S is again presenting itself as a single source of integrated solutions for secure communications and radio intelligence. The R&S MR6000A software defined UHF/VHF transceiver offers particular flexibility for airborne platforms and is deployed in applications such as the European A400M military transport aircraft. It is one of the only radios of its kind to meet both military and civil avionics standards. The radio intelligence systems from R&S are integrated into stationary, mobile and airborne platforms around the world and include individually adaptable solutions for detection, direction finding, location and signal processing in a broad range of scenarios. The latest shipboard antenna systems provide special space-saving solutions with unlimited omnidirectionality and optimised radiation patterns.
