SPIKE Team Trainer – Tactical training for a SPIKE combat team

SPIKE Team Trainer (STT) Tactical Training System

The SPIKE Team Trainer (STT) provides tactical training for a SPIKE combat team. It enables the training of single gunners, section and integrated platoons. STT facilitates training of the unit’s full operational sequence from Standing Operation Procedure (SOP), deployment, target acquisition and engagement, repositioning, and battle damage assessment (BDA) through debriefing (after action review). Several Spike Indoor Trainers (IDTs) are connected to offer a simulated battlefieldwhere training for several SPIKE combat teams is simultaneously conducted. Each SPIKE section conducts the training session in a separate training room, in order to simulate reality in which the various Spike sections deploy separately but still maintain mutual dependence.

The simulated battlefield scenery is transmitted into the eyepiece of the gunner’s CLU (Command Launch Unit) and the commander’s binoculars, which also serve as a LRF (Laser Range Finder) and compass. It’s projected on to wide panoramic screen to simulate the real scenery viewed from the SPIKE section’s POV (Point of View). SPIKE section commanders communicate by simulated radio communication using a tactical headset and can deploy in different locations to view the battlefield from a variety of attack positions.

The SPIKE Team Trainer facilitates the training of the platoon, sections or squads, as well as single gunners. Operating the ATGM system supplies high quality training for SPIKE commanders in situational awareness and fire control. Interactive control by the main instructor produces a dynamic team trainer, simulating the ever-changing, modern battlefield typified by system fault insertion, changing of enemy formations and trajectories, and rapid changing of missions.

SPYDER ADS Family Short and Medium Range Mobile Air Defence Systems

The SPYDER ADS Family is one of the most advanced, mobile, quick reaction, Network Centric Air Defence Missiles systems available today.

SPYDER SR (Photo: Rafael)

The SPYDER ADS family, developed by Rafael, includes the SPYDER SR (Short Range) and the SPYDER MR (Medium Range).

The SPYDER systems are based on the same operational concept and use most of the same elements. They may be deployed independently, but the combined deployment can provide significant advantages. The SPYDER-SR System is a low level, quick reaction missile system, designed to engage and destroy a wide spectrum of threats, such as attack aircraft, combat helicopters, bombers, cruise missiles, UAVs and UCAVs and stand-off weapons. SPYDER-SR ADS ensures protection of high value assets (such as air force bases, Naval Bases, Communication Centres etc.) as well as manoeuvring combat forces.

SPYDER-SR is all-weather, network-centric, self-propelled, multi-launcher, quick reaction, air defence system. The system enables 3,600 missile launching within five seconds of the target being declared hostile by the SPYDER-SR system.

SPYDER-SR missiles are Rafael's most advanced, air-to-air missiles: the DERBY, active radar Beyond Visual Range (BVR) missile, and the PYTHON-5, a sophisticated dual band Imaging Infra-Red (IIR) missile.

TACMAX Tactical WiMAX Network

The TACMAX Family of Base Stations, Repeater Stations and Mobile Stations are capable of delivering high quality video streaming & multimedia, data and voice (triple play) services for military applications. The TACMAX implements MIMO spatial processing intimately integrated with a WiMAX baseband solution allowing mitigating intentional interference effects by developing a smart antenna MIMO technique. TACMAX performs well in the presence of hostile jammers. TACMAX supports also fixed stations deployed at long range from the Base stations, eliminating the need to use two different WiMAX solutions, one for mobile deployment and one for fixed deployments.

Another differentiator compared to conventional WiMAX systems is TACMAX's supports of multi-hop relaying, allowing unique flexibile networking connectivity and redundancy schemes.

TACMAX supports WiMAX 802.16e wave 2 features, plus adaptations required to operate in a Military environment and scenarios. Standard IP interfaces allow seamless integration of TACMAX with the fixed IP infrastructure of the Regional and Divisional HQs, and the support of single IP user (like soldier) or single/multi-user IP network on the vehicular Mobile Station.

Rafael's TACMAX is based on the IEEE 802.16e standard. Adaptations are done to support specific Military requirements such as:

  • Support Military Frequency Bands (700MHz vs. commercial WiMAX bands)
  • Robustness and Immunity in the presence of interference
  • Extended Range (Power Amplifiers, High Gain Antennae)
  • Military Environmental Conditions (MIL-STD's)
  • UL/DL rates (Commercial equipment is supporting internet type of applications – high DL and low UL data rates. Many of the military application require mobile stations to upload high data rates to the BS)
  • High sector data rates of up to 45Mbps
  • Commercial and customizable Network Security
  • Mobile Network Connectivity (Networking Connectivity, High Availability and Redundant Architecture)

TACMAX will meet most of its abilities in a hostile electromagnetic environment which will include interfering radiation sources operating in frequencies assigned for the TACMAX operation.

Rafael's TACMAX Family of Base Stations, Repeater Stations and Mobile Stations are capable of delivering high quality video, data and voice services for military applications, characterized by Environmental conditions, Low Bandwidth, fast deployable or Mobile Environment. TACMAX family of Base Stations (BS) includes Small/Cost Effective Single-Sector BS up to Multi-Sector BS (Flexible Scalable Architecture). TACMAX Mobile Stations are available in various form factors: vehicular, portable (soldier) or fixed. Rafael offers an end-to-end solution for mobile and fixed WiMAX that includes a complete ecosystem of base stations, relay stations, mobile stations, a network management system and a Signal C2 Software - Planning Software Tool.
