MILIPOL 2015: Rafael Unveils EZ-K9e Stand-off IED Detection System

The IED (Improvised Explosive Device) is a common worldwide threat. Since the IED is a low-cost, yet lethal weapon (causing casualties and demoralising troops and civilians) its use poses a significant challenge to security forces, law-enforcement personnel and first responders dealing with insurgent, terrorist and criminal groups.  To effectively counter the IED threat, Rafael has developed the EZ-K9e IED Detection System in a compact, light-weight package that can easily be adapted to various configurations to suit the demands of the operational environment.

EZ-K9 is a detection system used to detect concealed IEDs. It creates an entirely new capability to defeat IED threats in urban areas and open terrain. The EZ-K9e is the result of Rafael’s expertise and extensive research and development (R&D) efforts in the domain of Counter IED's, resulting in a range of IED detection and neutralisation products to support EOD teams or other forces to provide freedom of operations and enhance survivability.

The IED detection is based on a microwave effector that enables non-line-of-sight detection and localization from a standoff distance. The Detection System can be mounted on a variety of Man Transportable Robotic Systems.  In addition, the system can be installed as an add-on package on other types of combat-engineering platforms. For dismounted forces, the same Detection System is available in a man-portable configuration. EZ-K9 enables the EOD team to quickly find and locate IEDs from a standoff position, with pin-point accuracy without exposing the team to life-threatening risks. It allows operation in suspicious open terrain and urban areas, and can be mounted on any man-transportable robotic system (MTRS) and small engineering platforms. For dismounted operations man-portable, hand-held EZ-K9 configuration is available.
