IDEX 2015: Rheinmetall Displaying Armoured Vehicles and Ways to Protect Them

At IDEX 2015, Rheinmetall is displaying armoured vehicles and ways to protect them. On show are the BOXER vehicle equipped with a high energy laser (HEL) effector module, exemplifying the extraordinary versatility of this state-of-the-art fighting vehicle. Rheinmetall MAN Military Vehicles (RMMV) is presenting the SURVIVOR R, configured for a command post role.

Rheinmetall's BOXER vehicle can be seen at IDEX 2015.

At IDEX Rheinmetall is exhibiting a GTK BOXER tactical vehicle carrying a HEL effector module. An Oerlikon SKYSHIELD turret equipped with a HEL-effector instead of a conventional gun is also on display.

Furthermore, the company is displaying its comprehensive force protection concept, highlighting systems and components such as the the ROSY smoke/obscurant system and the ADS Active Defence System.

Smoke/obscurant systems like “ROSY” make vehicles invisible to the enemy in the event of an ambush, etc. A new version of ROSY, “ROSY_mod” (modular), is specifically designed for small weapon stations and light vehicles of the kind used by special operations forces. Moreover, ROSY_mod can be integrated directly into the vehicle without a launcher, making it undetectable.

A proven performer already in production, the globally leading Active Defence System (ADS) is an extremely effective, state-of-the-art active hard kill system for protecting military vehicles in every weight class from operational threats. ADS provides total situational awareness thanks to sensor systems, which continuously scan for incoming projectiles such as shaped charge warheads or antitank guided missiles (including overflying top attack). When the sensors detect a threat the system reacts within microseconds by automatically activating a protective sector and then neutralizing the incoming threat. ADS is the only high-performance near-field protection system that employs a fragment-free countermeasure which intercepts the threat in the immediate proximity of the vehicle, thus significantly reducing and containing the risk of collateral damage.
